A few words about the choice of name and what it means:
Zingiber officinale or ginger belongs to the ginger family, like cardamom, turmeric, galangal (Siamese ginger), etc.
The name of the root comes either from the Tamil language where it is called inji ver. (inji = root, ver = body) or from the Sanskrit srngaveram – singabera (srngam = horn vera = body) names related to its shape.
