Cocoa butter

Latin name: Theobroma Cacao

Cocoa Butter is derived from the treatment of the seeds of the Theobroma Cacao plant (the Latin name means “food of the Gods“), which is also known as a cocoa tree. The first information we have about the cultivation of cocoa plants comes from the Mayan civilization around 600 AD. The plant was of great value to the Mayas, cocoa beans were used as a currency to pay taxes, but also as a means of trading. Cocoa butter has been used since 1828 when a hydraulic press was designed to extract the butter from the roasted seeds. Nowadays, cocoa butter is used by both, the chocolate producing industry as well as the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industry.

Cocoa butter is known for its antioxidant and anti-aging properties as it contains Vitamin E. It alleviates dark circles and wrinkles around the eyes, tightens skin pores and scars, has bleaching effect, softens the skin and improves its elasticity. It is an ideal cosmetic for dry and aging skin as it has a strong moisturizing effect. The healing and regulating power hidden in cacao butter is owed to its vitamin K content. Most important, however, is its effectiveness in the treatment of stretch marks. It seems to be the only remedy able to alleviate them.
Cocoa butter is "solid" at room temperature. Nevertheless it“melts“immediately when in contact with the skin and provides immediate, deep and effective hydration.
